Global Call to Action against Poverty Scotland
In 2005 the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) movement was formed, committed to forcing governments to act on their millennium promises and 30 million people around the world responded to the call to MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY
In 2006 GCAP Scotland was born, and in 1 day in October, 23.5 million people in over 100 countries stood united against poverty, creating the largest single coordinated movement of people in history.
Yet in 2007, the rich countries in the world have not delivered on their promises. Nearly half the world’s population are trapped in a cycle of extreme poverty and gross inequality – on our planet facing climate catastrophe.
We believe that now is the time to renew our call to action. We believe now is the time to Stand Up and Speak Out Against Poverty.
We urge you to Stand Up and Speak Out because:
- 5,000 children die every day from drinking dirty water
- 5 million people living with HIV and AIDS still don’t have access to medicines
- Every minute, every day a woman dies in pregnancy or childbirth
Join individuals, groups, organisations and societies throughout the globe and Stand Up and Speak Out Against Poverty
